In the years since multi-millionaires and billionaires have
been buying up football clubs like bread from a supermarket, we had seen the
conflicting sides of the money game. Chelsea started the trend with Abramovic
spending staggering amounts of money to get players to destroy what was then
the comfortable fabric and monotony of the English Premier league.
There were other less noticeable takeovers until the Sheiks
took over at City. The team that had been in the shadow of Manchester United
for so long were finally in business. Supermarkets also benefited with extra
sales of “those” tea towels converted to complete the desert prince look.
Fast forward to 2014 and the crew from Etihad have a team
that can win it all. Mancini’s departure was seen as a negative as it would have
been nice to see a team that stuck to their manager through thick and thin but
no, the Arabs went and got a manager not know for winning anything of note.Pellegrini came in and was greeted with a few frowns of
confusion. After all what does he know
of the premier league? A few games at the beginning of the season went awry,
especially away from home and Arsenal looked to have the advantage.
Well that can now be discounted because Manchester City is
on fire. They obliterated Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs as well as West ham for 6.
They put 5 past Blackburn and 4 past Manchester United. Much had been made
against their mentality on away games but with such power from the squad this
will not be an issue for long. I can see them grow from strength to strength
through the season and potentially win all four tournaments they are competing
for. Although I have to say that this is dependant on Vincent Kompany’s
fitness.
They suffered away from home this season while Kompany was
out injured and when he just got back in the squad. Joe Hart is back in favour too and his ego would have been suitably pricked to keep him honest for some
time.
The pairing of Negredo and Aguero up front is a scary
proposition for any opposition and that midfield of Yaya Toure, David Silva,
Samir Nasr and James Milner offers a multitude of riches for the neutral and
fans alike.
Pellegrini has offered the premier League something we haven’t
seen from the likes of the successful Mourinho at Chelsea as well as his predecessor
Mancini and that is dignity and pure unadulterated football without the
gimmicks. It has been nice to watch a football game where defence isn't
the only goal. This team plays football like a computer.
Not taking the foot off the pedal after scoring 2 goals. In fact, I fail to remember any of the Manchester City players showboating and they have Brazilian Fernandinho in the team. They are here to do a job and they intend to run over anyone who dares to stand in their way.
We should all be very scared.
Money in the case will only
make the opposition suffer. Manchester City and their fans will be extremely
happy by what it has given them.
